RESIDENT

LOURDES MARTÍNEZ

MEXICO

Lourdes Martínez lives and works between Guadalajara, Jalisco and Mexico City. She covers diverse approaches to image, body, capitalism, culture, and semiotics from historical reviews, relying mainly on drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, collaborative art, situations, text, video, essay and digital art. For Martínez, it is important to put the artistic product as a mere subsequent object in order to re-conceive praxis as a long-term project, mediated by axes oriented by notions of identity, cartographies, habits of thought and structures of feeling where metaphoric levels of transition and symbolic action operate, supported by the contradictory impulses offered by the production of alienating events and their becoming in the form of symbolic or fictionalized guerrilla. Martínez has exhibited her work on different occasions individually, recently with the project Vidaoxxo in Sala abierta del Museo de Arte de Zapopan in Jalisco, Mexico, as well as collectively in "Courage" 2018 with Rinomina Gallery in Paris, France, curated by Abraham Cruzvillegas, in 2019 "Der Arf Nira En Egar U. O.C. in Mexico City, curated by Neri Barranco in Mexico City and "Observaciones sobre historia natural y artes útiles" curated by Wendy Cabrera Rubio and Alejandro Cámara Frías at Laboratorio de Arte Alameda, among others. She has collaborated in various spaces of artistic residencies with inquiries and experimentation from gender perspectives in spaces such as Lagos in CDMX and Museo casa taller José Clemente Orozco in Guadalajara, among others, in which she develops workshops, lectures, exhibitions and essays, recently “Las Post Mujeres de José Clemente Orozco” with impronta casa editora and another updated version in process that involves texts on the project Pinturadepatos. She is currently producing work in her studio in the Historic Center of Guadalajara and working on an exhibition project of painting and research on sculpture and craftsmanship between Guadalajara and Mexico City.

Using the body as a web of manifestations, “Pintura de patos” proposes paradigmatic tensions and emotional junctures between painting, aesthetics and asymmetries.

Each duck is a place.
