Oaxaca
The Artist Residency Program lagos | Oaxaca seeks to offer a unique space for artistic creation and intercultural dialogue, centered on a space of creation and reflection that values inner and/or collaborative connection.
Artists will receive curatorial and logistical support, and will have the opportunity to interact with local artisan communities. The program offers two modalities: personal (for individual projects) and collaborative (to work with local artisans, whether it is by commisioning work, learning a new technique or through joint projects between the artisan and the artist). Additionally, participants will be able to join local and international professional networks through the Lagos I Platform. The residency is open year-round, with both personal and collaborative modalities, and its duration ranges from 1 to 3 months, with monthly costs that include all basic services and local transportation.
In collaboration with artists Mercedes Gertz and Mónica Castillo, lagos expands to San Pablo Etla, a community located 20 minutes from the city of Oaxaca, offering an exceptional natural and cultural environment. The lagos I Oaxaca program is intended for artists to enrich their practice through the fusion of contemporary art with traditional Oaxacan knowledge. In a well-equipped house/studio, suitable for an individual residency, it provides the conditions for full concentration in the development of a project, exhibition, or body of work. It is also a space to carry out an artistic residency focused on the relationship between contemporary art and traditional techniques such as textiles, clay, and other local communal knowledge.
