RESIDENT 2024
Alejandro Martínez
SPAIN
Alejandro Martínez was born in Elda in the mid-1980s. From an early age, the artist showed an innate vocation for art. According to his parents, by the age of three he was already playing with his two brothers, creating drawings and figures out of modeling clay. Every summer, the marquee in their home became a space for experimentation, where they built structures with vines, warriors, and characters of their own invention.
Over time, his purpose became clear: he wanted to study Fine Arts, yearning to step outside his usual environment and seek new experiences. This desire led him to Altea, where he began his academic training. The diversity of his generation was a true gift; his mind opened up in an environment where people from different, colorful backgrounds came together around a shared passion. Days, weeks, and semesters were filled with conversations about art, philosophy, and life itself. Those years left an indelible mark on his life, helping him realize that he wanted his existence to revolve around painting and art.
He later completed a year at the University of Madrid and finished his degree in Salamanca, where he was able to grow both personally and professionally. Since then, his career has focused on this discipline, participating in solo and group exhibitions in Spain and other European countries.
Throughout his career, his creative process has evolved, adapting to the circumstances of the moment. Yet all stages of his work share a meticulous attention to aesthetic treatment, as well as a deep exploration of the most intimate aspects of the human condition: intuition, perception, and mystery. To achieve this, he uses portraiture, landscape, and the human figure, aiming to establish a dialogue with the images. Materiality—its behavior, density, opacity or transparency—and the plastic contributions add layers of meaning that enrich his work and connect it with the viewer.
