RESIDENT 2022

Fernando Madera

MÉXICO

Fernando Madera Alvarado began his artistic career when his first illustration was published in the now-defunct BUTT Magazine in 2008, just before completing his BFA at Concordia University in Montreal.
After graduating, his first solo exhibition took place in 2010 at the Dutch art gallery FWBK in Amsterdam.

His work is composed primarily of two-dimensional surfaces: all kinds of paper, canvas, walls, or wooden panels. In recent years, his practice has focused on compositions using acrylic ink. He also works with digital software to modify his ink sketches and compile them for use in larger compositions.

A notable feature of his work is that it almost always begins with ideas drawn from the site itself. He collects these ideas and translates them into his own pictorial language, shaped by personal experience and vernacular influences. He composes visual narratives.
