EXPERIMENTAL, BRAVE AND IMPATIENT GESTUALITY

Gigi Guttersen is a brave woman who, in this brief one month stay in lagos, in an intrepid way, launched herself to move her figurative painting to an abstract space. With the pictorial disciplinary support of Vanessa García Lembo, she experimented with techniques that allowed her to transmit her deep feeling of color, which is the vibrato of her connection with artistic practice, to the expanded plane of inherence.

Gigi's objective in this residency, had a very daring beginning, since to change the expression - materialization of the look, perception and action through painting, from the figures to the essential qualities of the objects, that is to say of the matter itself, is a very powerful act and at times naive to be achieved in such a short space of time, especially when no formal painting classes have been taken, plus the impatience was present and thanks to it the engine ignited. Today we can appreciate, in the achievements that are evident, that it is possible by doing and doing, letting go and letting go, and with the strength of the excitement focused on a goal, to achieve the first steps of transformation.

So today we can enjoy a beginning; in a journey that begins in small paintings that allude to flowers, which gradually mix with lines, shapes without precise description of a particular object. To then continue to papers that are strongly impregnated with the search for the essential gestures of the stroke, without having a flower in mind, they find out what is behind the shapes and colors of the buds.

Further on we appreciate four papers where the stripping of the formality of the objects is clear. Colors, marks, traces of brushstrokes, memories of energy, perseverance and restlessness.

The research of this period culminates in a large canvas and three paintings in which we can recognize the work, dedication, devotion and pursuit of a goal. Pieces in which Gigi's deep feeling in Mexico City is captured, that upon her arrival the violet of the Jacarandas trapped her and anchored her to focus on her deep desire to change.
