Born in Arcadia, California, Irma Sofía Poeter is a self-taught and multidisciplinary artist. She began her career as a painter in 1993 and later ventured into sculpture and installation. She has participated in more than 15 group exhibitions, among which are:

The Seventh Biennial of Havana, Havana, Cuba. International Standard Hall, CECUT, Tijuana, Baja California, Bancomer Art Hall, Modern Art Museum, Mexico, DF., Cornerhouse, Manchester, England and Zacheta National Art Gallery, Warsaw, Poland. She has individually exhibited at the Universidad del Claustro, México, DF., Jardín de las Esculturas, Jalapa, Veracruz, México, Sala de Arte, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Tijuana, México and at the Tijuana Cultural Center, Tijuana , Mexico. Her work is developed with an emphasis on the use of fabrics and textiles. She is currently developing a project with the Textile Museum of Oaxaca, Mexico.
