RESIDENT

JOSÉ EDUARDO BARAJAS

MEXICO

José Eduardo Barajas's practice consists of an investigation of visuality based on experimentation with different techniques. His work combines his personal experiences, popular culture iconography and elements from different pictorial traditions. Folk motifs are interspersed with technical processes ranging from conventional drawing and painting to abstraction and experimentation with new materials. In this way, Barajas's work is presented as a visual language that challenges the viewer's perception and memory. He additionally has worked as a curator and program coordinator.

José Eduardo Barajas (CDMX, 1990) is the fifth and last resident of a residency program for local artists by invitation; the program has supported artists active on the local scene with workspaces and grants for their projects. A selection of his recent work in painting and drawing, produced during his residency, will be on display at Material Art Fair (2020) as well as in his studio during CDMX Art Week (Feb. 3-9, 2020).
