RODRIGO NAVARRO

MEXICO

Rodrigo Navarro was born in 1995 in Nezahualcoyotl, Edo. Mex, Mexico. In 2017 he enters the ENPEG "La Esmeralda" where he is currently in his 6th semester of undergraduate studies in which he is specializing in painting. He has taken different courses and diploma courses complementary to his artistic education, among which are "Photography" at the CaC, Saúl Serrano, "Art History" at the Cento ADM, "Poetry and Metaphor" at Casa del lago (UNAM), "Sketch" at Mostro studio. He has attended the painting workshop at Shwarstein gallery and Emilio Lameiras painting workshop.

Throughout his pictorial exploration he has frequented the representation of enclosed spaces and everyday moments, as well as the relationship of the image with the support on which it is painted. In his recent work he proposes to explore the representation of the body as a space in constant adaptation of the places it inhabits; in constant search of accommodation for the realization of some activity generally related to alienation, self-absorption and repetitive work.

Tunings of the closed space is the project Rodrigo Navarro develops during his residency in Lagos, which proposes a pictorial reflection of intimacy from the everyday living space. The following project consists of a series of self-portraits based on the artist’s recent interest in the relationship between the body and the enclosed space. Taking into account the satire and the imaginary, Navarro seek to generate images in which moments of intimacy are perceived with certain chaos, decadence, alienation and self-absorption. The figures present deformations in the body thought with a sense of relationship and adaptation to the space represented as well as the exaggerated mood and the limit of the physical space of the frame.

For the creation of the scenes Navarro departs from the memory of everyday situations completing them with the imaginary as well as with visual references, these can be places he inhabits, such as parts of his house, objects placed as live models, photographs, digital drawing tools or studies and drawings made in moments of leisure.

Navarro also explores the integration of different pictorial treatments, which operate autonomously, but integrated into the whole composition.
