PULSATING BODY

During the production residency that Victoria Boissonnas carried out at lagos | estudios y residencias, an exercise emerged centered on recognizing the primary emotional drive that fuels her artistic practice, pushing it toward a dimension different from what she had previously explored. This movement toward a third dimension became an expansion of her graphic territory into a more robust plastic field than what she had practiced in her earlier works and series.

Victoria’s creative drive resides in the body, as a constant capacity for expansion. During her time in residence, we identified two specific dimensions in her work:

-The personal context: Victoria’s life story has been marked by a bodily trauma affecting her skeletal structure; as her emotional drive flows and passes through that trauma, her body, to some extent, releases the density of that encounter, allowing it to permeate and soften over time. This shift enables future flows to manifest with different textures and frequencies, not only those shaped by trauma but also those born from a conscious balance with human transcendence, a central theme in the artist's work.

-The formal and material expansion: In this other dimension, the drive flows openly, gently and freely, transcending the graphic plane on paper into volumetric expression. This evolution allows both the artist's body and her formal language to incorporate other materials, giving space to new emotional discoveries and aesthetic outcomes. These in turn contribute to a more solid and expanded body of work, rooted in an exploration of time and space through plastic means.

The results of this clear, playful, and deeply affective process, nurtured by Victoria over two months in Studio 2, a luminous and stable space in Mexico City, can be seen as an installation that subtly echoes the spirit of Parangolé: a locomotor frenzy in layers and forms, reinforcing the statement of emotion-body-psyche integration, toward a liberation and reformulation of both inner and outer spatiality. A total work of art, which was the path we sought to pursue.
